Library

Through books and storytelling, our library program supports Quad Prep’s mission by integrating social-emotional learning with intellectual academic challenge. This inspires a lifelong love of stories, storytelling, and reading.

Students are encouraged to read aloud and engage in independent reading every day—and daily reading improves fluency, develops a love of reading, and creates deep connections. Books from the Quad Prep libraries may travel home or remain in the classroom and are returned the following week. To meet the needs of all our students, we offer an extensive ebook and audiobook collection via Sora to supplement our school collection for students of all ages.

Lower School Library

In the Lower School, all students in grades K-5 have open access to the library throughout the school day, whether to browse the collection, check out a new book, or simply enjoy the quiet environment. The library is also available for full class visits in support of projects and curriculum.

Our youngest students meet weekly with the librarian for storytime. For our youngest students, storytime is integrated with their theater classes to simultaneously build literacy skills and expressive reading and storytelling skills, which reinforce social-emotional language and learning.

Upper School Library

The Carr Family Library, housed on the 5th floor of our Upper School Campus, combines the mission of the Lower School library with a reimagined format to meet the changing needs and abilities of our students as they mature. Like the Lower School Library, students across grades 6-12 have open access to the library at any time of the school day that their schedule allows.

The collection is intended to encourage students to retain their joy in reading and stories as they grow. The space is designed with defined spaces to study, socialize, and read. The librarian also works with classroom teachers to teach students research skills, including the use of the online catalog and research databases.

About the Digital Library Catalog

Quad Prep participates in a consortium of independent school libraries in the New York area (Hudson Valley Library Association, “HVLA”) that provides access to over 9,000 ebooks and close to 2,000 audiobooks.

Accessing the HVLA Catalog

  1. Download the Sora App to your preferred device (Google Play or the Apple App Store) or access it via your browser. (You can download Sora to multiple devices.)
  2. Sign in using your student’s Quad Prep Google account.
  3. When prompted to “Search for School”, enter “Hudson Valley Library Association” in the “Find My School” tool. You will then be asked to select your school from a list, at which point you can select “Quad Prep.”

Add Public Library Catalogs

You may also add New York Public, Brooklyn Public, or Queens Public Libraries (or any other library for which your family has a card that participates). Here is a video walking you through the process of adding a public library.

A not-for-profit independent college preparatory school, Quad Prep’s rich and robust curriculum engages, challenges, and inspires students at all levels, K–12, through our Lower School and Upper School programs.
