After School Program

Grades K-5

Stay N’ Play is our daily offering of rotating clubs and activities. Multiple activities run at the same time, every afternoon, in different rooms across the Cedar Street Campus. This means your child is not locked into a single class for the entire session. Instead, After School is designed to feel like a vibrant activity fair, where students have real choice and flexibility in how they spend their afternoon. Movement Club will run every day, and the number of additional clubs running simultaneously on any given day will depend on enrollment.

Activities included in Stay N’ Play are:

• Movement Club — This high-energy, joyful program gives students the active outlet they need at the end of a focused school day, combining athletic games, cooperative challenges, and group play in a structured yet wonderfully playful environment.
• Crafty Creators — From painting and collage to mixed media and recycled art, students dive into a rotating world of art materials and techniques, producing work that is entirely, wonderfully their own.
• Technology Lab — Technology Club gives young learners their first exciting steps into the world of coding and digital creation, using age-appropriate tools and platforms that make programming feel less like a lesson and more like a superpower.
• Chess, Checkers, & Table Games — This is where young strategic minds come to play, grow, and thrive. Built around classic games that have challenged and delighted players for generations, this club is equal parts fun, focus, and friendly competition.
• Lego Club — Lego Club is beloved, and it’s easy to see why! Students take on exciting themed design challenges that push them to plan, experiment, build, and rebuild, turning a pile of colorful bricks into cities, vehicles, robots, fantastical worlds, and everything in between.
• Story Club — Story Club is the place where your child’s stories come to life. This creative storytelling workshop transforms young students into full-fledged authors and illustrators, guiding them through the exciting process of planning, drafting, and bringing their own original narratives into the world.
• The Role Players Guild — The Role Players Guild brings the magic of tabletop role-playing to life, inviting students into rich, collaborative worlds inspired by games like Dungeons & Dragons.

Grades K-5

Ready, set, cook! Cooking Club is where young chefs discover that making food is one of the most exciting, delicious, and surprisingly educational things you can do. Students roll up their sleeves and get hands-on with real kitchen skills, following recipes, mastering basic techniques, and working together to prepare dishes they actually get to taste.

Every session is a full sensory experience of new flavors, textures, and cultural traditions from around the world—and the sheer joy of eating something made from scratch is the icing on the cake. Along the way, students build patience, cooperation, and a growing confidence in the kitchen that parents will absolutely notice at home.

From savory to sweet, simple to surprising, Cooking Club turns after-school time into the tastiest hour of the week. Your child will come home with new skills, new favorites, and a very good appetite.

Grades 6-12

This After School club is for those who would like extra time using the Wacom tablets for digital art or the Toon Boom Harmony Animation Software. 2D animators will be supported in their artistic explorations and will have the opportunity to explore animation concepts, including multi-plane backgrounds, lip-syncing, camera movements, motion pegs, key frame animation, puppet rigging, and digital special effects. Stop motion animators will have the opportunity to explore claymation, LEGO stop motion, object animation, puppet building for animation, set building, lighting, in-camera special effects, and green screen. Students may also use this as open studio time to explore digital art on our Wacom tablets.

Students should arrive ready with artistic ideas that they would like to explore. There will be no assignments. 

Grades 6-12

Homework doesn't have to feel like a mountain students are climbing alone. Homework Center is a dedicated, structured after-school space where students get assignments done, find their focus, and build the habits that make everything easier, in school and beyond.

With expert, one-on-one support in executive functioning, students learn how to break big tasks into manageable steps, push past procrastination, stay organized, and follow through to completion. These aren't just study skills, they're life skills. Students leave each session feeling accomplished, prepared, and genuinely in control of their academic life.

Whether students need help getting started, staying on track, or simply having a quiet and supportive place to do the work, Homework Center has you covered. Think of it as a personal productivity launchpad, right here at Quad Prep.

Grades 6-12

Come get some fresh air and exercise in Central Park! Central Park offers an incredible variety of habitats, from woodlands and meadows to ponds and lakes, making it a great outdoor classroom. 

We’ll walk trails, observe wildlife, and learn more about the natural environment around us. Students will learn how to identify plants and trees, snap great nature pictures, and take the time to appreciate the beauty of our local ecosystems. This is a relaxing and welcoming club for students who enjoy being outdoors, are curious about wildlife, or are looking for a way to connect with others outside of a traditional classroom setting. No prior experience or expertise is needed—just an interest in exploring and learning!

Students will travel together from the Upper School to Central Park, and dismissal will be from Central Park.

Grades 6-12

For the student who doesn't just make art, but lives it, Art Prep is a personal sanctuary, studio, and challenge. This is an open studio time reserved for the most committed young artists at Quad Prep: a rare opportunity to work at their own pace, on their own terms, with expert mentorship guiding every step.

Led by Head Visual Art Teacher Jay Yoon, Art Prep gives serious artists the dedicated time, space, and feedback they need to make real breakthroughs, technically, conceptually, and creatively.

Grades 6-12

Join Quad Prep’s very first year of Chess Team! Students of all skill levels are welcome to come play chess and grow through the world’s most iconic strategy game. Chess offers an exciting and supportive environment where students can sharpen their minds and challenge themselves.

Through guided instruction, friendly matches, and engaging strategic exercises, students will develop essential skills such as critical thinking, patience, forward-planning, problem-solving, and good sportsmanship. Chess encourages creativity, resilience, and strategic decision-making—all while having fun with peers who share an interest in the game. This is the perfect opportunity for students to strengthen cognitive skills, build confidence, and enjoy healthy competition in a welcoming group setting. Come think, compete, and discover the joy of chess!

If there is enough interest, there may be the possibility for competition in the future (either individually or as a team).

Grades 9-11

Have you ever wondered how genes influence behavior? In this exciting, hands-on research program, students will step into the role of a scientist and explore some of the most important questions in neuroscience today. 

Working in a small cohort twice a week, students will design experiments, collect and analyze data, and investigate genes connected to neurological conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and autism. No prior laboratory experience is required—just curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn!

Using C. elegans (a tiny, Nobel Prize-winning organism that shares many important genes with humans), students will conduct authentic behavioral neuroscience research and learn how scientists study the relationship between genes, the brain, and behavior.

Throughout the year, students will develop valuable STEM skills, including:

• Designing and conducting scientific experiments
• Using automated behavioral tracking software
• Collecting and analyzing real research data
• Creating graphs and interpreting results
• Presenting scientific findings with confidence

This program is an excellent fit for students interested in science, medicine, biology, neuroscience, psychology, or research. By the end of the year, students will have completed a genuine research experience and may have opportunities to pursue advanced projects, participate in STEM competitions such as the Terra NYC STEM Fair, and explore future research opportunities in university laboratories.

If your student enjoys asking big questions, solving problems, and discovering how science can help us better understand the world, this is an incredible opportunity to experience research firsthand.

Grades 6-8

Middle school theater students will engage with fundamental theater practices, building essential performance skills and techniques. As students develop skills in each area of study, they will move forward through the curriculum, culminating in a performance showcasing their acquired skills and talents. The middle school and high school clubs will merge in the winter to prepare for the major springtime production!

Areas of study may include: ensemble work, improvisation, storytelling, scene work, ten-minute plays, and performance techniques. Due to the ensemble nature of theater, the complexity of study will be determined through the collective skill set of the group.

Grades 6-12

This is the ultimate after-school hangout for fans of card games, strategy games, party games, and every social deception masterpiece ever invented. Whether it’s Catan or Codenames, the creativity and cunning needed to win will expand your mind to endless possibilities!

Students can bring their favorite games to share, teach newcomers how to play, or dive into something totally new. Every session is a different adventure depending on who shows up and what hits the table. Board Games Club is where memories are made and friendly rivalries are forged. It’s true: the best entertainment doesn't need a screen.

No experience needed, just an open mind, a competitive spirit, and the willingness to lose gracefully. Come for the games, stay for the community.

Grades 7-12

The Quad Prep Robotics Team is where future engineers, innovators, and tech leaders are built. Competing in the FTC Tech Challenge, one of the most prestigious robotics competitions in the country, this team operates like a professional engineering firm: precision builds, strategic thinking, high-stakes competition, and an unrelenting drive to win.

Every member of this team is a problem-solver by nature and a builder by choice. Students will design, prototype, program, and compete against the best young engineers in the region through the FTC Tech Challenge. This is college-prep at its highest level, the kind of experience that looks extraordinary on applications and feels even better in real life. Geniuses aren't born, they're built. Grades 9-12

Ready to build confidence and maximize SAT potential? This comprehensive SAT Preparation Course is designed to help students develop the skills, strategies, and test-taking confidence needed to perform at their best on exam day. 

Each session will be divided into one hour focused on verbal/writing and one hour focused on math, providing students with targeted practice and personalized support in both sections of the SAT. Through guided instruction, practice questions, and proven test-taking strategies, students will strengthen their academic skills while learning how to approach the SAT with confidence and efficiency.

This course will be led by Olivia Ordin, Upper School Learning Specialist, Executive Functioning Coordinator, and Intake/NWEA Testing Coordinator. Olivia has over ten years of SAT tutoring experience and has spent the past four years supporting students at Quad Prep. She specializes in supporting students with diverse learning profiles; using evidence-based programs like Hochman, Orton Gillingham, Project Read®, and Visualizing and Verbalizing to strengthen reading, writing, and expressive language skills. Olivia brings a deep understanding of how students learn best and how to help them tackle challenges with confidence. Her expertise and warm teaching style make her the perfect person to guide students through SAT content, test-taking strategies, and skill-building in a supportive environment.

Grades 9-12

High school theater students will engage with one-act scripts, with the intention of producing a student-directed one-act festival. Student leadership will be developed in collaboration with the theater director and can include multiple areas of technical theater interest. Additional opportunities to engage with monologues and ten-minute plays may be available. The middle school and high school clubs will merge in the winter to prepare for the major springtime production!

Grades 6-12

Does your student know a little bit about everything? Can they name a movie from one quote, identify a historical figure from a few clues, or remember random facts that seem to surprise everyone around you? Then Quiz Bowl might be the perfect club for them!

Quiz Bowl is a fast-paced, team-based competition where students use their knowledge across a wide range of topics, including literature, history, science, pop culture, geography, sports, current events, and much more. Using a head-to-head buzzer system, players compete to answer questions quickly and accurately, earning points for their team while sharpening their critical thinking and recall skills.

Beyond competition, Quiz Bowl is a fun and social environment where students can learn new facts, share their interests, and build confidence in a supportive setting. As students gain experience, they'll develop the ability to think quickly, recognize patterns, and anticipate answers before the question is even finished.

Throughout the year, club members will practice together, explore fascinating trivia, and have opportunities to participate in local and regional competitions against other schools.

Whether your student is a trivia expert or simply loves learning new things, Quiz Bowl is a great way to be challenged, meet fellow knowledge enthusiasts, and put their brainpower to the test!

Grades 6-12

Tiny figures. Enormous creativity. Mini Model Painting is a one-of-a-kind club where imagination takes physical form, one deliberate, satisfying brushstroke at a time. From the battle-worn warriors of Warhammer 40,000 to the whimsical adventurers of Dungeons and Dragons, every miniature is a blank canvas waiting for your vision to bring it to life.

Students will learn the real techniques that professional hobbyists use: base coating, layering, dry-brushing, shading, highlighting, and the fine art of making tiny details look absolutely stunning. These are skills that build focus, patience, and a level of artistic confidence that spills over into everything you do.

Whether students are brand new to the hobby or already have a collection at home, every session is hands-on, meditative, and deeply satisfying. Students will leave each week holding something they made—something genuinely impressive—and that feeling never gets old. This is art. This is craft. This is Mini Model Painting.

Grades 6-12

The Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA) at Quad Prep will bring together queer and allied students to talk and learn about relationships, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and some of the issues that surround these topics. This organization will be student-led and staff-facilitated, and could include activities such as group reading, watching films, event planning, Socratic discussions, or even field trips. This After School club is a social and safe space to explore identity, and ultimately hopes to improve school climate through community building.

Grades 6-12

Dungeons and Dragons is the greatest collaborative storytelling game ever created, a living, breathing adventure where students are the heroes, the villains, the explorers, and the legends. Choose a character: a battle-hardened warrior, a cunning rogue, a wise wizard, a fierce ranger. Then step into a world where anything is possible and every decision matters.

Scale volcanic mountains to face ancient dragons. Dive beneath dark oceans to negotiate with mysterious sea creatures. Navigate the treacherous politics of underground kingdoms, solve impossible riddles, and forge alliances that will determine the fate of the campaign. Every session is different. Every roll of the dice changes everything.

At Quad Prep, a talented student steps up each semester as Dungeon Master: the architect of the world, the narrator of the tale, the ultimate creative force guiding the adventure. It's one of the most exciting creative challenges to take on. The table is set, the map is drawn, and the quest is waiting. Will you answer the call?

Grades 6-12

Preheat the oven, don an apron, and get ready: Baking Club is where delicious things happen. This is a real, hands-on baking experience led by a professional pastry chef who will teach students the techniques, science, and secrets behind the most delicious treats. 

Every session is a full sensory adventure: the smell of something incredible baking in the oven, the satisfaction of getting a technique right, and the absolute joy of eating what is created. Students will learn how ingredients interact, why recipes work the way they do, and how to troubleshoot when things don't go as planned. These are kitchen skills that last a lifetime.

Best of all? Every recipe can be recreated at home to impress friends and become the person everyone asks to bake their birthday treats. Sweet ambitions are not just welcome here, they're required.

Grades 6-12

Looking for a creative space to relax, make something with your hands, and connect with others? CrAfternoon is a welcoming, low-pressure environment where students of all skill levels can explore their creativity, learn new techniques, and bring their ideas to life.

Each week, students will have the opportunity to work on a variety of hands-on projects, including zine making, paper crafts, sewing, crochet, beading, air-dry clay creations, and much more. Whether students are experienced makers, complete beginners, or somewhere in between, there is always something new to try and create.

Students can bring a project they’re already working on, start something entirely new, or simply come to experiment and explore different materials and techniques. CrAfternoon is a place where imagination is encouraged, creativity is celebrated, and every project is uniquely your own.

Most importantly, it's a fun and supportive community where students can unwind after the school day, make new friends, and enjoy the satisfaction of creating something from start to finish.

Grades 6-12

Be a part of Quad Prep’s first-ever Math Team! Being a member of the Math Team is a fantastic opportunity to find community through a love for mathematics, tackle challenging mathematical problems together, and test your brain for problem-solving! Work through traditional competitions like American Math Competition (AMC) and prepare for college in a fun, friendly environment.

Grades 6-12

End the week the right way, moving, competing, and having the time of your life. Friday Multisport is Quad Prep's high-energy outdoor sports club, where students head to Imagination Park every Friday to play, compete, and push themselves across a rotating lineup of sports and athletic challenges. This is real outdoor athletics, fast-paced, team-driven, and built to bring out every student’s competitive best.

Students will build speed, agility, coordination, and the kind of teamwork that only comes from playing hard alongside peers. Whether students are seasoned athletes or just love to move, Multisport meets students where they are and raises the stakes every week.

This is the club that makes Fridays exciting. No homework, no screens, no sitting still—just fresh air, friendly competition, and full effort from first whistle to last. Lace up, show up, and finish the week strong.

Grades 6-12

This isn't a pickup game: this is real basketball, taught by someone who played it at the highest level. Quad Prep's Basketball program is led by our very own Mark Johnson, a former professional player who brings genuine expertise, passion, and elite coaching to every single session. From fundamental drills and footwork to live intramural scrimmages, students will develop skills and be challenged in the best possible way.

Come for the game. Stay for the growth. Basketball builds discipline, teamwork, and athletic confidence that serve students well beyond the court.

Grades 6-12

Speed. Strategy. Teamwork. The Quad Prep Flag Football Team is ready to take the field this season and compete against other schools in fast-paced, action-packed games that reward athleticism, communication, and smart decision-making. Every play is a chance to make an impact, whether students are throwing the perfect pass, pulling a game-saving flag, or racing into the end zone.

Outdoor practices develop football fundamentals, game awareness, conditioning, and the teamwork needed to succeed in competitive play. Players build confidence, leadership, and resilience while learning how preparation and effort translate into success on game day. The beautiful game just got a whole lot more exciting. The Quad Prep Soccer Team will compete in the MSAL again, an NYC sports league — going head-to-head against other schools, and building the kind of team chemistry that only comes from genuine competition. This is soccer the way it's meant to be played: fast, physical, strategic, and full of heart.

Twice-weekly outdoor practices sharpen footwork, build tactical awareness, and develop the fitness and teamwork that make a great squad. Our coaching team provides support both on and off the field, because being a student athlete here means more than just showing up to practice. It means representing Quad Prep with pride, maintaining academic standards, and growing as a person through the demands of real sport.

This is just the beginning of something special. Choose one practice day or sign up for both; more time on the pitch means faster growth, stronger connections, and a bigger impact come game day. The season is here. Are you ready to run?

Grades 6-12

Every athlete has a starting line. This season, the Quad Prep Track & Field Team is stepping onto the track and into competition, challenging athletes from other schools while pursuing personal bests, team success, and the thrill of race day. Whether sprinting, running distance, jumping, or throwing, every event offers an opportunity to discover what each student is capable of achieving.

This year, we aim to join a winter track league in order to keep the energy and maintain fitness in preparation for our spring season. Quad Prep supports athletes as they build confidence, discipline, and perseverance both on and off the track. We’ll focus on technique, conditioning, goal-setting, and the mental toughness needed to succeed in sports.

Grades 6-12

The energy is building, and so is the competition. The Quad Prep Volleyball Team is taking the court this season, ready to challenge other schools, and develop the skills that turn a group of players into a true team. Every serve, set, and spike is an opportunity to grow, communicate, and rise to the occasion together.

Practice will focus on technical skill development, game strategy, athletic conditioning, and the teamwork that makes volleyball such a dynamic sport. Players learn to trust one another, respond under pressure, and compete with confidence. Quad Prep coaches provide support every step of the way, helping student athletes balance the demands of competition while representing their school with pride and integrity. Whether students are developing fundamentals or looking to elevate their game, this season offers the chance to be part of something exciting.

Grades 6-12

The Quad Prep Wrestling Team is stepping into competition this season, challenging athletes from other schools in one of the oldest and most demanding sports in the world. Every match is a test of strength, technique, discipline, and determination, where preparation meets opportunity and effort is on full display.

Quad Prep coaches with extensive wrestling experience will help students develop the fundamentals of wrestling, including takedowns, escapes, positioning, balance, and mat awareness. Athletes build strength, endurance, agility, and mental toughness while learning how to stay composed under pressure. Wrestling may be an individual sport when the whistle blows, but success comes from the support, encouragement, and accountability of a dedicated team. Quad Prep coaches work closely with athletes in a supportive environment to help them grow both as competitors and as students who represent their school with pride. Whether students are new to the sport or looking to sharpen their skills, this season offers the chance to challenge themselves in ways few activities can.
