2e Education at Quad Prep
2e Education at Quad Prep: A Leading NYC School for Twice-Exceptional Students
Education at Quad Prep is rooted in a deep understanding of and experience with the unique needs of twice-exceptional students. 2e students have intellectual gifts and complex needs. The interplay between these gifts and needs requires a unique way of teaching and learning. Quad Prep offers a program that is designed purposely and specifically for twice-exceptional learners, where they can excel academically, thrive socially, and embark on a successful future.
Pillars of Success
Twice-exceptional students require a consistent and compassionate educational setting that ignites their curiosity and engagement. At Quad Prep, we integrate rigorous academics, social-emotional learning, clinical services, and executive functioning support into a cohesive model that has proven to be successful for 2e learners. We firmly believe that twice-exceptional students are uniquely poised to make an impact on the world. Our program reinforces their extraordinary potential through:
Personalization and Rigorous Academics
At Quad Prep, we believe that learning should be ceilingless and personalized.
We combine collaborative classroom experiences with guaranteed 1:1 sessions between students and teachers, tailoring instruction to each child’s academic strengths, interests, and learning style. Our mixed-age classrooms and seminars allow for well-matched seminar groups, and our schedules allow for movement between grades and classes.
Our rigorous 2e curriculum and immersive classrooms invite students to dive deeply into areas of interest and discover new passions; to excavate complex ideas and concepts; experiment, discuss, and debate; innovate new solutions and inventions; and discover their voices and express their perspectives.

Integrated Social-Emotional Learning and Clinical Services
Social-emotional learning (SEL) and related clinical services are woven throughout our curriculum and all aspects of our students’ days. Our collaborative cross-disciplinary teaching teams feature academic and specialty teachers and clinically trained psychosocial teachers, who partner with clinicians to implement personalized strategies for students. Students requiring additional academic support work with our team of learning specialists.
As part of our program, all students work with our expert clinical team of occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, social workers, and counselors. Clinicians and teachers are in constant dialogue with each other in order to facilitate an integrated experience for students.

Talent Development
Our 2e curriculum allows students to more deeply explore their extraordinary interests and passions as they mature through student-driven learning, diverse electives, enrichment programs, and opportunities with cultural and educational resources in New York City.

Executive Functioning and Independence
Developed in-house, our 2e Executive Functioning Program provides daily opportunities for students to develop essential skills in organization, planning, and time management. Over the course of this K-12 program, students begin to self-identify areas of individual challenge and learn to advocate for themselves.

Partnership with Families
At Quad Prep, we make sure that we deliver on the promise of partnership with families. We protect time and schedule monthly meetings with parents and any outside professionals or family who are involved in your child’s educational journey to collaborate and best support our students.

Flexibility
The development of 2e students is asynchronous—their intellectual abilities may outpace their social, emotional, or executive functioning skills. So, a learning environment must have embedded flexibility.
From choices in seating to learning spaces of all sizes, our team creates possibilities for the perfect setting to learn in. Every inch of our campuses is a possible learning space to allow each student to have just the right place to learn.

Expert Staff
As a twice-exceptional school since 2013, Quad Prep teachers and clinicians have pioneered the specialized Quad Prep practices that make our 2e students thrive. Experienced staff mentor and train new staff, and all staff receive personalized professional development. We have a unique supervisory and coaching program, and we invest in the professional development of each of our teachers and clinicians to keep current with educational and clinical practices.
In addition to staff development weeks before each school year and ongoing professional development throughout the year, Quad Prep hosts an annual national conference, Breakthroughs in Twice-Exceptional Futures where educators, clinicians, specialists, families, and advocates of neurodiverse schools and futures come to learn from us and meet each other.

What does
Twice-Exceptional mean?
Twice-exceptional (2e) learners are students who possess high intellectual potential or academic talent and also have learning, attention, or social-emotional differences. These students may be gifted in areas such as reasoning, creativity, or specific academic subjects, while also navigating challenges like ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia, anxiety, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, or other learning and cognitive differences. 2e learners require both rigorous academic opportunities and targeted support to fully develop their strengths and reach their potential.
Common Characteristics of Twice-Exceptional Students
A not-for-profit independent college preparatory school, Quad Prep’s rich and robust curriculum engages, challenges, and inspires students at all levels, K–12, through our Lower School and Upper School programs.
